So you’re considering skin tightening…

Skin Tyte is a non-invasive laser procedure used to tighten the dermis. As we age, our skin begins to lose its natural elasticity. If you’ve noticed crows feet, jowls, or other problem areas, the SkinTyte procedure might be the solution. To hear answers to questions other patients have had, continue reading below!

How does it work?

SkinTyte™ uses infrared thermal energy to heat the collagen in the dermis, initiating your body’s natural healing process. This healing or repair process creates a renewed collagen foundation which leads to increased skin firmness. For even more information on how it works, go here. Or watch this YouTube video: SkinTyte as seen on “The Doctors”

Does it hurt?

Nope. Most people are able to tolerate the laser with no topical anesthesia and no change in their normal activities after the procedure. However, your clinician may apply a topical numbing agent to sensitive areas as a precaution.

What areas can I use it on?

SkinTyte works best on the face, neck, abdomen, and thighs. But do discuss your problem areas with your Aesthetician; we can work out a treatment plan specific to your needs.

How long does it take?

For small areas, the procedure usually takes about 30-40 minutes. Larger areas may require more time. We recommend 3-5 treatments for the best, most long lasting results.

My results only lasted a couple of hours, what’s going on?

Although you should begin to see results right away, it can take several months for the full affect of the procedure to take hold. Your body is working during that time to make the changes. We recommend completing the whole 5 treatment program. You should begin seeing longer lasting changes after each successive treatment.

How long will results last?

It depends on each person and the area being treated, but you may want to reassess your skin care needs anywhere between 6 months to a year.

What kind of recovery time am I looking at?

No recovery time is expected. You should be able to continue your normal activities with the exception of excessive sun exposure (see below).

What aftercare will I need?

Sunscreen! Sun damage is one of the factors which causes the breakdown of the dermis. We recommend plenty of sun protection to help you get your best results.

Some clients experience even greater results by adding a Vitamin E cream to their daily regimen. The Vitamin E adds moisture deep into the treated tissue which helps promote a firmer texture.

What can I expect during the procedure?

When you check in, we will ask you a few questions about any allergies or skin breakouts as well as any other procedures you have had.

During the procedure itself, we will give you eye protection and put goo on the treatment area. (If we’re treating your face, it might be helpful to pull your hair back with a headband.) Then we’ll use the machine and a special thermometer to heat your skin to the perfect temperature. Although the machine has a built-in cooling system, you may notice the heat more on the bony areas of your face (such as forehead or cheek bones) as there isn’t as much tissue to absorb the heat. If it becomes uncomfortable, tell your tech right away.

Is SkinTyte FDA approved?

Yes. It is approved for heating the collagen layer to promote healing (which is what we do with it). Here is the FDA link concerning laser use.

Will SkinTyte cause dry mouth if I have it done on my lower face or neck?

No. If you experience this, you should consult a medical professional.

I heard that SkinTyte doesn’t work on jowls and tummy, is that true?

It is true that SkinTyte works best on “lax” skin or skin which is loose but not significantly baggy. It is designed to help with wrinkles rather than skin folds. Your Aesthetician will be able to help you decide if SkinTyte will work for your particular problem area. It may be possible that you are a candidate for some other procedures we offer.

Does clinical research support this procedure?

Yes. Dermatologists across the country routinely recommend this procedure for easing wrinkles. An article in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology states, “Tissue tightening devices have continued to be a major force in the noninvasive skin tightening market. Clinical research studies, although small in most cases, have supported their usefulness….”
